Bumble - one of the larger online dating sites was found to contain bugs within their API which had the potential to expose personal information. This information would be obtainable to a user who had not matched with the other user. This personal data included:
- Political leanings
- Astrological signs
- Education
- Height and weight
- Distance away from the user in miles.
What needs to be learned from this, is that any information that is put online needs the risk of data exposure assessed by the user. If you do not 100% trust the site to hold onto your data correctly, they you might want to consider not posting sensitive information about yourself on that platform.
It is also worth noting that the bug that was in place to cause this data exposure has since been fixed.
